Is population shift a bigger issue than AI?

One of the problems created by short attention spans and rapid hype cycles is critical long-term issues tend to be pushed out by more profitable, trendier topics. Crypto and AI consume a tremendous amount of bandwidth leaving issues like depopulation starved for attention. And while crypto and AI are certainly reshaping aspects of our lives, depopulation and population shift at a massive scale have the potential to reshape our entire world order.

From changing cultures to decimating economies to fueling conflicts, population shift is already driving changes for everyone. For some, the changes are subtle and difficult to see. For others, the changes are dramatic and cause dramatic disruption.

So who is winning and who is losing? Who is aging and who is giving birth? Who is attracting global talent and who is being sucked dry? And what does it all mean to the world order as we know it? How should societies, governments, and businesses plan for and respond to population shift and how do we design a future that ensures a sustainable future for everyone?

In the next few posts I’ll explore global population shift from several angles, starting with where shifts are occurring and then moving into exploring the implications of those shifts.
